Kargil Vijay Diwas 2024: Prez Murmu, PM Modi and others pay tribute to war heroes

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in paying tributes to the armed forces on Kargil Vijay Diwas 2024.

Prime Minister Modi laid a floral wreath at the Drass War Memorial to honour the officers and soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the Kargil conflict.

On July 26, 1999, the Indian Army declared victory in the nearly three-month-long battle of Kargil, marking the successful culmination of Operation Vijay.

Kargil Vijay Diwas commemorates India's victory over Pakistan, celebrating the bravery and sacrifice of the armed forces.

President Murmu paid tribute to the courage and valour of the soldiers, focusing on their supreme sacrifice for protecting India's territory. I am sure that all countrymen will draw inspiration from their sacrifice and valour, she said. 

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh honoured the brave soldiers' indomitable spirit and courage, acknowledging their service and sacrifice. Their unwavering commitment, valour and patriotism ensured that our country remained safe and secure, Singh said.

Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan and the armed forces paid homage, drawing inspiration from the heroes of Kargil to defend the nation.

Various events were organized nationwide, including at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, to mark the occasion and honour the fallen soldiers.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar saluted the soldiers' valour and dedication, noting their legacy as a guiding light for all Indians.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid homage to the armed forces, recognizing their supreme sacrifice during Operation Vijay.

On the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, I pay my humble tributes to brave armed forces personnel, who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the motherland during India's victory in 'Operation Vijay', Sinha wrote.

Various events were organised across the country, including at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass to mark the occasion.
