On this day in October 1984, Indira Gandhi, the first woman Prime Minister of the country was assassinated by two of her Sikh bodyguards at her residence. On her 36th death anniversary, here are some rare pictures of the 'Iron Lady of India'!

Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister of India between 1966 and 1977 and later between 1980 and 1984. She was born on November 19, 1917, in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh.
