The situation in Manipur remains tense after students clashed with police during a march to Raj Bhavan. Curfew is still in place in Imphal.

A curfew was imposed in the state capital, Imphal, on Tuesday afternoon following the clashes between students and security forces. It continues today with police patrolling the town to prevent further unrest.

The clash occurred when students tried to march towards Raj Bhavan in Imphal to demand the removal of the Director General of Police (DGP) and the security advisor to the state government.

During the protest, police fired tear gas shells to disperse students, who were accused of throwing stones at security forces in the Khwairamband and Kakwa Naorem Leikai areas.

A students' body claimed that more than 55 students were injured in the clashes with police and were admitted to RIMS hospital for treatment.

Representatives of the students met Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Tuesday night and submitted a memorandum with their demands. The governor assured them he would take action in the best interest of the students and the people of Manipur.

The government amended its order on Tuesday evening, stating that the suspension of internet services would only apply to five valley districts, in response to the intensified student agitation.

Police confirmed that search operations and area domination exercises were ongoing in Kangpokpi district, where arms and explosives were recovered.
