The mortal remains of the revered leader were brought to Island Ground, Chennai, allowing the public to bid their final farewells from 6 am to 1 pm.

Political leaders, actors, and individuals from various walks of life gathered at the DMDK office and Chennai's Island Ground to pay tribute to Vijayakanth.

Renowned actor Vijay paid homage to the late DMDK chief, joining the multitude expressing their condolences meanwhile actor Sonu Sood said that he owed his career to Captain Vijaykanth

Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and other prominent figures, including Minister Ranipet R Gandhi, DMK's RS Bharathi and BJP leader Khudhboo Sundar, honoured Vijayakanth's memory.

Vijayakanth battled health issues and was admitted to MIOT Hospital in November due to deteriorating health caused by coughing and throat pain. He tested positive for Covid-19 before his passing.

Known as 'Captain', he led a prolific career in the Tamil film industry, starring in 154 movies before entering politics.

Transitioning from cinema to politics, Vijayakanth served twice as a member of the Legislative Assembly, representing Virudhachalam and Rishivandiyam constituencies.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had declared full state honours for Vijayakanth's funeral, acknowledging his significant contributions as both an actor and a leader.

The Chief Minister lamented Vijayakanth's demise, recognising it as a substantial loss to the state and the cinematic world.

CM Stalin conveyed heartfelt condolences to Vijayakanth's family and party members, acknowledging the significant impact the late leader made in both spheres of life.

Vijayakanth's legacy, marked by his influential roles in films and politics, remains etched in the memories of Tamil Nadu's people as they bid him a dignified farewell at the public viewing in Chennai's Island Ground.
