Gandhi paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi by offering a garland at his statue.
Accompanied by prominent leaders including Sachin Pilot, Dipak Baij, and Charan Das Mahant, Gandhi led the yatra in an open jeep, attracting a large crowd of Congress supporters.
The yatra is being seen as a morale booster for the Congress party following its defeat in the state assembly elections held in November last year, aiming to re-energise party workers and regain public trust.
Gandhi criticised the BJP, accusing them of promoting injustice and spreading hatred and violence as part of their political agenda.
Gandhi targetted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning his caste identity and alleging manipulation of OBC status, stirring controversy amidst the political discourse.
Covering a distance of 536 km in Chhattisgarh, the yatra will pass through various districts including Raigarh, Sakti, Korba, Surajpur, Surguja, and Balrampur before entering Jharkhand on February 14.
The yatra signifies the continued engagement of the Congress party with the people of Chhattisgarh.
