On Saturday, the Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) will hold a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi

During one of the protests that took place early on Saturday, a civic volunteer of Kolkata Police allegedly rode into a barricaded area with his motorcycle and injured a Rabindra Bharati University student who was holding a demonstration

Apart from justice for the victim, the doctors are demanding that the government expedite the enactment of the long-pending Central Healthcare Protection Act, which seeks to ensure the safety of healthcare professionals across the country

The case is currently being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation. The Kolkata Police, which was earlier probing the sexual assault and murder, had arrested a civic volunteer for the crime
