At least 24,265 houses have been damaged due to the floods. The destruction of homes has left many families in urgent need of shelter and basic amenities, highlighting the dire humanitarian situation in the affected areas.

Authorities have evacuated 18,103 people to safety. To support the displaced population, 56 relief camps have been established, providing temporary accommodation, food, and medical assistance to those in need.

Minister for Water Resources and Relief & Disaster Management, Awangbou Newmai, held a meeting with senior officials to review the flood situation. The focus was on coordinating immediate relief, search, and rescue operations to mitigate the impact on affected communities.

Approximately 401 hectares of crops have been affected by the floods, leading to significant agricultural losses. This damage to crops further exacerbates the challenges faced by the local farming communities.

Relief materials have been distributed to various districts, including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bisnupur, Noney, Churachandpur, Senapati, and Kakching. These supplies are essential for providing immediate relief to those impacted by the floods.

The floods have resulted in the death of three people, with nine others sustaining injuries. Additionally, one person remains missing. The government continues to prioritise search and rescue operations to locate the missing individual and provide support to the injured.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh provided an update on social media, mentioning that breaches in river embankments occurred at 18 spots. Out of these, 17 breaches have been sealed, helping to control flooding in the surrounding areas and prevent further damage.

The northeastern state has experienced heavy rain and thunderstorms due to Cyclone Remal. This severe weather has compounded the challenges faced by the residents, leading to widespread flooding and infrastructural damage.

In response to the severe flooding, the Manipur government declared a two-day public holiday for all state offices until May 31. Citizens have been urged to stay indoors unless there is an emergency, aiming to ensure public safety and reduce the risk of further incidents.

The local communities have shown resilience in the face of adversity, with many coming together to support each other during this crisis. Efforts are being made to provide aid and assistance to the worst-affected areas.
