Meanwhile, in the national capital, historical monuments, iconic landmarks and government buildings were lit up in the colours of the national flag to commemorate the freedom movement that led to the country's independence in 1947
The India Gate, the North Block, Samvidhaan Sadan (Old Parliament House), Safdarjung Tomb and the Vikas Minar were lit up in the tricolour on the eve of Independence Day
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminal, Mantralaya Building, SBI Building, Shipping Corporation and the Bandra-Worli sea link were lit up in the tricolour
