After the collision, both trains derailed
According to the Government Railway Police, both the loco pilots were initially admitted to the Sri Fatehgarh Sahib Civil Hospital and later they were referred to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala
"Around 3:45 am, we received information that an accident took place. We have reached the spot," said Ratan Lal of the Government Railway Police (GRP), Sirhind

Dr Evanpreet Kaur of Civil Hospital, Fatehgarh Sahib said that both the loco pilots were residents of Uttar Pradesh
"In the train accident, two injured loco pilots have been referred to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala... Both are residents of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh," Dr Kaur told ANI
However, Railway sources mentioned that it was not a side collision between the trains
"It is not a side collision. It is an overshoot of signal on DFC by goods train," Railways sources told ANI
