The fire was triggered by a series of vehicle collisions near a petrol pump, which likely intensified the flames. Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma visited the SMS Hospital to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured and also surveyed the accident site.
Over 25 ambulances were dispatched to the scene, transporting the injured to local hospitals for treatment. Fire brigade teams faced significant challenges in reaching the burning vehicles due to the scale of the incident.
Despite the fire’s proximity to three petrol pumps, they were fortunately unaffected by the flames. Police, civil defence personnel, and fire brigade teams are working in tandem to control the fire and ensure public safety.
The accident occurred early in the morning in the Bhankrota area of Jaipur on the main Ajmer Road, a key transport route. Moti Singh, a petrol pump employee, described how the fire quickly engulfed the vehicles, but he was able to contain the flames at the petrol pump using a cylinder.
The accident caused a massive traffic jam, with vehicles unable to move for hours as a result of the fire and emergency response. Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot condemned the incident, offering prayers for the injured and calling the accident deeply concerning.
