PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has called for accountability in light of the recent Doda encounter, which resulted in the deaths of four army personnel.

She said it was the need of hour for responsibility following the loss of 50 soldiers in terror attacks over the past 32 months in Jammu and Kashmir.

Mehbooba Mufti criticised the Director General of Police (DGP), R R Swain, suggesting that he should be held accountable for the ongoing violence. She argued that the DGP is more focused on political manoeuvring than on effectively managing security operations.

The PDP leader condemned the Doda encounter, lamenting the loss of brave soldiers and officers.

Similarly, Shiv Sena's J&K unit and Dogra Front staged a protest over the Doda encounter in Jammu and demanded accountability from the government.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day Congress leaders including LoP in Lok Sabha--Rahul Gandhi--sought response from Union government. Jairam Ramesh highlighted that this was 11th attack in the last 78 days in Jammu alone.

The incident in Doda involved a gunfight between security forces and heavily armed terrorists. This encounter led to the deaths of four army personnel, including an officer.

The clash took place in the Desa forest belt, a challenging terrain that complicated the operation.

This was the third significant encounter in Doda within three weeks. It followed a deadly ambush in the Machedi forest belt in Kathua district, which claimed the lives of five soldiers. The rising violence in the region has been a cause of concern for the security forces and local authorities.

Following the encounter, the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police mobilised reinforcements and launched a joint operation. Despite the challenging conditions, the security forces chased the terrorists, leading to a firefight that resulted in casualties among the soldiers.
