Six persons lost their lives after a boat carrying 15 people capsized in the Jhelum River in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir. Pics/ PTI

Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat, Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar, provided details stating that among the passengers, seven were minors and eight were adults. 

Twelve individuals were rescued, but unfortunately, six succumbed to their injuries, while three remain missing, he said.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed profound sadness over the incident and extended condolences to the families of the victims. 

Sinha assured that relief and rescue efforts are underway, with teams from SDRF, Army, and other agencies involved in the operation.

Dr Sameena, Zonal Medical Officer at Batmaloo said rescue efforts involving SDRF, NDRF, and other forces, were underway. She said injured were given provide medical assistance and some of whom have been shifted to SMHS hospital.

Mehbooba Mufti, Chief of the Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party expressed shock and sorrow over the loss of lives in the tragic incident. She urged the administration to provide all necessary assistance to the affected families.

Former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, who is also the National Conference patron, shared his condolences and lamented the delay in completing the construction of a bridge that could have potentially prevented such incidents.
