The incident took place in the Sairang area, about 20 km from Aizawl in Mizoram

Sabyasachi De, the chief public relation officer of Northeast Frontier Railway, told ANI that a team of railway officers has been rushed to the spot and senior officials of zone will also visit the site

Congress President Mallaikarjun Kharge said he was deeply saddened to learn about the tragedy in Mizoram's Aizawal district where at least 17 workers were killed after an under-construction railway bridge collapsed

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the kin of workers who died when an under-construction bridge collapsed in Mizoram. He also announced an ex gratia compensation of Rs 50,000 for those who suffered minor injuries

In a post on X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled with the family members of the deceased, and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of the victims
