On Friday morning, at Delhi's international airport Terminal 1 a section of canopy collapsed amid torrential rainfall which resulted in one death & six injuries

In response to the roof collapse, flight operations at Terminal 1, primarily used for domestic flights by IndiGo and SpiceJet, have been suspended until further notice. The Civil Aviation Ministry announced this measure to ensure passenger safety.

Passengers scheduled to depart from Terminal 1 faced disruptions, with flight departures suspended until approximately 2 pm. Arriving flights, however, continued to land until mid-morning before operations were completely halted for safety inspections.

IndiGo flights originally scheduled at Terminal 1 have been relocated to Terminals 2 and 3, while SpiceJet flights have been redirected to Terminal 2.

Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu visited the airport to assess the situation firsthand and met with injured individuals receiving treatment at Safdarjung Hospital. He announced that the kin of deceased will be given Rs 20 lakh compensation and the injured will get Rs 3 lakh.

Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), which manages IGIA, expressed regret over the disruption caused by the incident. They assured the public of conducting thorough safety inspections and providing necessary assistance to those affected.

Both IndiGo and SpiceJet issued statements acknowledging the impact on their operations due to structural damage at Terminal 1. They advised passengers to check their flight statuses before heading to the airport.

Terminal 1's check-in counters were closed as a precautionary measure following the collapse. Emergency personnel responded promptly to assist the injured and ensure the safety of those within the terminal premises.

An investigation into the incident has been launched to determine the exact circumstances leading to the roof collapse.
