Despite EC ban, party workers celebrate Assembly polls victory flouting COVID-19 norms

Even after the Election Commission asked Chief Secretaries of all states and Union Territories to ban victory processions during and after counting of votes, party workers of victorious parties were seen celebrating as they went about violating COVID-19 norms amid the second-wave in the country. Despite EC ban, party workers celebrate Assembly polls victory flouting COVID-19 norms

As soon as the results of the assembly elections in four states - Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Union Territory of Puducherry started coming out, workers of the leading party in the respective poll-bound states were seen taking to the streets to celebrate the victory despite Election Commission ban.

On the counting day, the Election Commission directed chief secretaries and state police chiefs to take penal action, including lodging of an FIR, against violators in all such cases under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and other relevant laws.
