Tina Dabi Khan: The IAS topper who fell in love with second rank holder

Delhi based 22-year-old girl Tina Dabi hit the headlines for securing the first position in the prestigious Union Public Service Commission examination while Athar Aamir Khan from Jammu and Kashmir got the second rank in the same year. Love blossomed between them and eventually ended by getting married. Here's their story

Tina Dabi Khan hit the headlines in 2015 after she topped the UPSC examination in her first attempt. More so, because Tina Dabi Khan is the first Dalit to top the prestigious civil; services exam. Topping the list in her first attempt, the then 22-year-old Tina, said, "It is indeed a proud moment for me".

Tina Dabi Khan's mother is a former Indian Engineering Service officer. She took voluntary retirement from the job. Tina Dabi Khan's father Jaswant worked as an Indian Telecom Service officer. Tina Dabi Khan has a younger sister called Ria Dabi

Tina Dabi Khan completed Class 12th from Convent Of Jesus & Mary in New Delhi and is a graduate in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University. She cleared UPSC exam in the year 2016 and joined the IAS in the same year. She was under training for the next two years and received her first posting in October 2018

Tina Dabi Khan was posted as Sub Divisional Magistrate at Bhilwara, Rajasthan. She was given this assignment in October 2018. With this charge, she got the opportunity to be the Returning Officer for Bhilwara 180 Assembly Constituency in Rajasthan Assembly Elections of 2018

Tina Dabi Khan is an expert at debates and was the vice-President of Youth Parliament 2012 in her college. Tina Dabi Khan has also won the 'Student of the Year' title from LSR College

Tina Dabi Khan has participated in extra-0curricular activities like dance. She like travelling, reading books and is interested in making paintings

Tina Dabi had topped while Athar Amir Khan stood second in the civil service exams. It was love at first sight for them. They had met at the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) office in Delhi during the 2016 felicitation ceremony

Athar Amir Khan belongs to Mattan town while Tina Dabi is from Delhi. While Khan had opted for his home state cadre and Dabi for Haryana, both got Rajasthan cadre of the IAS

While Tina Dabi Khan is from Delhi, Athar Amir Khan belongs to Jammu and Kashmir. Although it was a fairy-tale story, the couple faced problems when they first announced their marriage

Many criticised Tina Dabi Khan's choice terming it was irrational and stupid and even 'love jihad'. Some Hindu outfits also wrote a letter to her parents to stop the wedding. Unfazed, Tina Dabi Khan said that even though all these things are disturbing, this is a small price for being in the public eye

Tina Dabi and Athar Amir Khan could not have had a more romantic setting than the picturesque Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir to tie the knot. The south Kashmir town buzzed with activity as guests from Khan's ancestral village in Anantnag district and Dabi's parents, relatives and friends from different parts of Rajasthan and Delhi poured in to attend the wedding ceremony. 

IAS topper Tina Dabi Khan now identifies herself as Delhiite, Kashmiri bahu (daughter-in-law) and IAS in that order
