A woman in Uttar Pradesh allegedly killed her husband and two stepsons here and then presented a fabricated version of the incident by informing police that they were being beaten up by unidentified assailants, officials said on Sunday.
The woman was arrested after she confessed during police questioning that she killed them fearing that her daughter may not have any share in her husband's property.
The incident took place late Saturday night and the woman informed police that two masked men were beating up her husband and children.
When the police reached the house in Sahabganj, they found that her husband and two stepsons were lying in a blood-soaked bed.

Police rushed them to hospital where doctors declared them dead. When police interrogated the woman, she admitted that she had killed them because her husband was not giving her a share in the property and had an ill intention towards her daughter, police said.
The woman, Neelam Gupta, was arrested and a case registered under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (punishment for murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC, and recovered a sharp-edged knife and stick used in killing from the spot, they said.

According to police, she killed her husband Awdhesh Kumar Gupta (35) and her two stepsons Aryan (7) and Aroh aka Pihu (6) with a sharp-edged weapon and stick on Saturday night when they were sleeping and then informed police that some people were beating up the three.
Police took them to a hospital where doctors declared them dead.
Neelam Gupta is the second wife of Awdhesh Gupta, and the two sons were from his first wife. After the death of his first wife, Awdhesh Gupta had married Neelam around a year ago.
Neelam Gupta has a daughter from her late husband Akhilesh and after his death, she married Awdhesh Gupta. Based on suspicion, police detained Neelam Gupta and a woman constable interrogated her.
During interrogation, she broke down and admitted that she killed her husband and his two sons with a sharp-edged weapon because he often used to say that he will distribute the entire property between his two sons and Neelam's daughter won't get any share.
She also accused her husband of having an ill intention towards her daughter, police said.
Superintendent of Police (City) Krishna Kumar on Sunday told reporters during a press conference that police got information that two masked men had killed Neelam's husband and two children after stabbing them in their neck.
Police got three of them admitted to the district hospital, where doctors declared Awdhesh Gupta and his two sons dead.
Subsequently, during interrogation, police found that Neelam Gupta and Awdhesh Gupta got married a year ago, but their relationship was not good, and they used to argue most of the time.
