A terror alert was sounded by Navi Mumbai police in Uran on Tuesday, after graffiti regarding terror outfit ISIS, and 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed was found below Khopte bridge there. Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has also sought details from the Navi Mumbai police and is doing a parallel inquiry, considering that Uran has several sensitive installations.
"Locals spotted the graffiti on the wall of the bridge and informed us. It is suspected to be the work of anti-social elements or sympathisers of terror outfits," said an officer from Uran police station. The graffiti was later removed.
Khopte bridge on Uran creek connects Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and the coastal town. The graffiti written below the bridge praised those fighting for the ISIS and mentioned the names of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and other terrorists. One of them also mentioned Hafiz Saeed. Sanjay Kumar, Navi Mumbai police commissioner said, "The matter has been taken seriously and an inquiry has been launched."
Senior officers from Navi Mumbai police and local Crime Branch are questioning locals. "We have sought a detailed report from the Navi Mumbai police, our local units are also looking into the matter," said an officer from Maharashtra ATS. Navi Mumbai police have requested people to inform them if they know anything, and said their identities will be kept secret.
