On Friday, the Supreme Court directed the Delhi government to not take any step which may cause a financial loss to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. The remark by the Supreme Court came after giving relief to the Delhi government overbearing the land cost for Phase-IV metro construction in New Delhi. The bench was headed by Justice Arun Mishra.

The apex court has directed that the Central Government has to bear 50 percent of the land cost for Phase-IV of the Delhi Metro. The court also observed that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has not faced any financial loss till date and it is likely that it will not suffer any loss in the near future as well.

But, the court has directed the Delhi government to use the public money properly and should not give sops to the people. Nearly two months ago, on July 12, the Supreme Court had directed the authorities of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to start work on Delhi Metro's 104-km Phase-IV project. The project had been hit by a feud between the Centre and the Delhi government over the cost of the land.

The order comes after the Delhi government has agreed to resolve the issue.
