States, UTs to get 4 lakh jabs; 1.53 crore still available with them: Health Ministry

More than four lakh (4,48,760) vaccine doses are in the pipeline and will be received by the states and Union Territories (UTs) within the next three days.

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) made the announcement through a statement and also clarified that more than 1.53 crore (1,53,79,233) Covid-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and the UTs to be administered. The Ministry further said that more than 26 crore (26,64,84,350) vaccine doses have been provided to states and the UTs so far, through the Government of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category. Of this, the total consumption, including wastages is 25,12,66,637 doses, reveals the data available at 8 am on Sunday. As part of the nationwide vaccination drive, the central government has been supporting the states and the UTs by providing them Covid vaccines free of cost. In addition, the central government has also been facilitating direct procurement of vaccines by the states and the UTs.

Vaccination is an integral pillar of the comprehensive strategy of the central government for containment and management of the pandemic, along with Test, Track, Treat and Covid appropriate behaviour.

India's cases continue to dip

Meanwhile, India's Covid cases continued to witness decline as it recorded 80,834 new infections, lowest since April 1 and 3,303 deaths due to the virus in the last 24 hours, according to data released by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Sunday. This is the sixth consecutive day when India has reported less than 1 lakh Covid cases. On April 1, India recorded 81,466 cases. India's overall tally of Covid-19 cases now stands at 2,94,39,989.

‘No clarity on procuring vax under new policy'

Several private hospitals across the country said they have no clarity on procuring Covid-19 vaccines under the new policy announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that it has led to the vaccination being put on hold at their centres. The hospitals have sought a proper mechanism and a single-window system to be put in place for procurement of vaccine doses. They also claimed that they had approached the vaccine manufacturers - Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute of India (SII) - and also state governments, but to no avail.

TN relaxes curbs in 27 districts

The Tamil Nadu government announced more relaxations in 27 districts of the state, including Chennai corporation following a decrease in the number of fresh Covid-19 cases as well as active cases in the state.

UP's Corona Mata temple demolished

A Corona Mata temple that had come up in Juhi Shukulapur village under the limits of Sangipur police station in Pratapgarh district has been demolished by the district administration.

Modular hospitals to be set up

To plug a major health infrastructure gap in India's fight against Covid-19, especially in rural areas and smaller towns, India has started project ‘Extension of Hospitals' in various states. Modular hospitals are an extension of hospital infrastructure and can be built adjacent to an existing hospital building.
