Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan applauded the Supreme Court's decision to give temporary bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, describing it as a forceful response to the BJP's efforts to undermine democracy.

Vijayan stated on Friday that this decision will have a substantial impact on the country's democratic framework and could affect the outcome of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

"This verdict would leave a lasting impact on the nation's democratic fabric and shape the outcome of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections," Pinarayi Vijayan said on Friday.

He condemned the BJP's authoritarian tactics, claiming that imprisoning a chief minister violates democratic values.

Vijayan also criticised the Narendra Modi government of avoiding direct connection with the public, claiming that the Supreme Court's judgement exposed faults in the BJP's policy of utilising divisive techniques to control public opinion.

He observed that as the election campaign progresses, the BJP's position weakens due to their obvious desperation.

Vijayan also cautioned against using institutions like the Enforcement Directorate for political objectives, claiming that the verdict invalidated the federal government's problematic decisions.

In conclusion, he expressed optimism that Kejriwal will continue dedicated to the democratic battle after his release, emphasising the necessity of protecting democratic ideals against authoritarian forces.

Kejriwal was released from jail after more than 50 days in custody following his arrest by the Directorate of Enforcement on March 21 in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case. He has been granted interim bail until June 1 under various conditions, including bans on visiting the Chief Minister's Office or the Delhi Secretariat.
