Recall Patel: Lakshadweep residents on 12 hrs hunger strike

Residents of Lakshadweep on Monday held an underwater protest while others staged a 12-hour hunger strike outside their homes, demanding recall of the islands' Administrator Praful Khoda Patel for his ‘anti-people' measures.

Protesters, including kids and women, demanded the alleged draconian laws to be revoked. They allege the new reforms are against the interest of the people of islands.

They are protesting against the draft legislations like Goonda Act, Lakshadweep Animal Preservation Regulation and Lakshadweep Panchayat Regulation, 2021, etc. A resident said, "We want to safeguard the interests in these islands. The administration is ignoring our demands. Thus, we are peacefully protesting."
