What has made the cops and the jail authorities all the more worried is the fact that the convict is suspected to be involved in a robbery incident that took place in Kandivli last month. Suraj Nepali, (27) was out on a 15-day parole and was to return on August 11. But he has not made it back yet. Kurar police had registered an FIR against Nepali and have been looking for him since then.
Raped 17-year-old
Nepali along with his friend Rajesh Jaiswal and two juveniles had gang-raped a 17-year- old girl on the night of May 9, 2011, when she went to the Siddhivinayak temple with them. The act had also been filmed on their cell phones. The Dindoshi Sessions court had pronounced the judgment and awarded life imprisonment to Nepali and Jaiswal. Both of them were lodged in Nashik jail.
Cop speak
Laxman Wanmane, senior police inspector of Kurar police station said, "On the complaint of the jail authorities we registered an FIR under Section 224 of IPC on August 20. We are on the lookout for the accused."
According to the incident, Nepali happened to go through the girl's phone records when he came across the names of a couple of local boys of Kurar village with whom he had past enmity. Thereafter, he had an argument with the girl over the matter.
Nepali then forced himself on the girl while Jaiswal recorded the act on his cell phone. The incident came to light a few weeks later, when some cops came across the MMS that the accused circulated among his friends.
