A man was arrested on March 24 for allegedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl on the premises of a private school here, police said.
The incident had taken place on Wednesday. "An unidentified person approached the girl on the school premises around 11.30 am on Wednesday. He took her to the toilet block where he allegedly sexually abused her and then fled," said senior inspector Anita More of Shivajinagar police station. Police then registered a case against the unidentified culprit under Indian Penal Code sections 376 (rape), 341 (wrongful restraint) and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
A 36-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident on Thursday, police commissioner Amitabh Gupta said late at night. Inspector Shailesh Sankhe of the Crime Branch said they zeroed in on the culprit with the help of CCTV footage and technical analysis. "He has confessed to the crime. He was briefly acquainted with the girl's father," the official said, adding that further probe was underway.
