Over 2.98 crore unutilised Covid-19 vaccine doses still with states, UTs: Centre

India records 39,097 fresh Covid-19 cases, 546 fatalities in a day; Indian Railways set to transport 200 metric tonnes of liquid medical oxygen to B'desh via Oxygen Express

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday said that 2,98,35,847 balance and unutilised Covid-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states, Union Territories and private hospitals to be administered. The Ministry said that it has so far provided 44,53,86,390 vaccine doses to states and UTs, through all sources and a further 85,58,360 doses are in the pipeline. Of this, the total consumption including wastages is 41,55,50,543 doses.

India records 39,097 cases

India's tally of Covid-19 infections rose by 39,097 in a day to reach 3,13,32,159, while 546 more people succumbed to the viral disease during the same period taking the death toll to 4,20,016 on Saturday. The number of active cases in the country has increased to 4,08,977, accounting for 1.34 per cent of the total caseload while the national Covid-19 recovery rate stood at 97.35 per cent, the data updated at 8 am showed.

Odisha sanctions ex-gratia

The Odisha government has sanctioned an ex-gratia of Rs 2.55 crore to the family members of 17 working journalists of the state who died due to Covid-19, an official release said. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved a proposal in this regard put forth by the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department on Friday. An assistance of Rs 15 lakh each has been sanctioned for the families, who died due to the infection.

India to deliver LMO

The Indian Railways is set to transport 200 metric tonnes of liquid medical oxygen (LMO) to Bangladesh in 10 containers via the Oxygen Express for the first time ever. "Indian Railways' Oxygen Express is set to embark on its journey to Bangladesh. This is the first time ever that the Oxygen Express is put into operation to a neighbouring country. Today, an indent was placed at Tata in Chakradharpur Division under South Eastern Railway to transport 200 MT of Liquid Medical Oxygen to Benapole, Bangladesh," the Ministry of Railways said in an official statement on Saturday.

MP govt issues SOP

The Madhya Pradesh government has issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) for reopening of schools for classes XI and XII with 50 per cent attendance starting July 26, an official said on Saturday. As per the SOP released on Friday, physical classes for students of classes IX and X resume once a week from August 5.

Kerala temple body to avoid ‘bali tharpanamm'

Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), the apex temple body in Kerala, has decided to avoid the annual ‘bali tharpanamm', a ritual to pay homage to ancestors, in its shrines this year citing the spread of Coronavirus, and assessing that it would be difficult to perform the ritual while adhering to social distancing norms. A recent high-level meeting of the Board decided not to allow the ritual, which used to be performed by thousands of devotees in temples across the state.
