Manali-Rohtang highway blocked after cloudburst triggers landslides

The south portal of the under-construction Rohtang Tunnel was damaged in a cloudburst near Dhundi, 25 km from Manali, that triggered massive landslides closing the Manali-Rohtang highway. Border Roads Organisation (BRO) personnel are at work to restore the road and repair the tunnel.

Meanwhile, the monsoon remained normal in the state but he local met office has warned of heavy rainfall upto July 30. Shimla and its surrounding areas experienced heavy downpour this afternoon, recording 28 mm of rains in just 30 minutes.

The roads were inundated due to overflowing water from blocked drains. Dharamshala was the wettest in the region with 80 mm of rain.
