Traffic cop asks biker for personal details, gets beaten with stick: In August this year, traffic constable Vilas Shinde was brutally assaulted by a biker who did not wish to give his personal details for data collection. The biker picked up a hard wooden stick from a petrol pump and hit the constable on his head. He was later arrested while the cop was admitted at Lilavati hospital in a critical condition. He passed away a week later.
On the day of the incident, Shinde was posted at the HP petrol pump on SV Road in Khar West. He was collecting data of all vehicles. A police officer said, "Shinde asked for details from a biker who was at the petrol pump. The biker was hesitant to give personal details. The traffic constable was slightly arrogant and spoke roughly with the biker. A heated argument started between the two and the constable threatened the biker by saying that he will take him to police station. This enraged the biker, who started hitting the constable. There was hard wooden stick at the petrol pump. The biker picked it up and hit the constable hard on his head. The constable was down in a pool of blood while the biker fled from the spot.
Helmetless brother-sister duo attack woman constable: On September 6, a brother-sister duo were arrested for attacking a woman constable on duty in Vile Parle. Constable Priyanka Khot (30) is attached to the Vile Parle police station, and had stopped the woman Aarti Patlekar (27) and her brother Sudarshan Patlekar (30) for riding a bike without wearing helmets. The duo got into an argument with Khot over the helmet issue, and they hit on her stomach and chest.

Cop trying to resolve pub brawl molested: In June, a brawl that started with two men blaming a Vile Parle pub for overcharging them, ended with the men getting arrested for molesting a woman constable. Two men from Kerala, who work with an automobile company in Mumbai, had come to Copa pub in Vile Parle. When done, the pub handed them a bill of Rs 14,000, which they refused to pay alleging that the pub was overcharging them. This argument soon turned into a brawl between the men and the pub staff. The pub management then called for police assistance.
A police team, comprising a woman constable, reached there and tried to resolve the matter by requesting both to accompany them to the police station. The men, who were drunk, then began arguing with the cops as well and refused to cooperate. "While this was on, the two men allegedly pushed the cops and one of them allegedly touched the woman constable inappropriately when she was trying to solve the matter," said a police official.
Before beating a cop, he said, 'All cops should be killed': Even as the Mumbai police was still reeling under Vilas Shinde's death, another assault on one of their own shook them, as an official was beaten up by a passenger of an autorickshaw. According to the police, traffic warden Vishwanthan Rane (38) was on patrol duty on SV Road in Andheri, when the incident took place.
Rane was diverting vehicles, to avoid a bottleneck-like situation on the road, when Shakil Ibrahim Zariwala (43), who was travelling in an auto, asked his driver to stop next to Rane. He then got out of the three-wheeler, and started arguing with the warden, saying that all cops should be killed. The argument got ugly when Zariwala started assaulting Rane. Traffic cops, who were in the vicinty, rushed to the scene and rescued Rane.
Zariwala was then handed over to the Andheri police station.
Shiv Sena worker held for assaulting, molesting woman cop in Thane: In February, a Shiv Sena worker allegedly assaulted and molested a woman traffic constable in Thane after she called him out for using his mobile phone while driving. The accused, who has been identified as Shashikant Kalgude 44, a residence of Tulsidham, Dharmaveer Nagar in Thane owns a Vada Pav stall, is believed to be member of Shiv Sena party and was arrested.

The woman constable, who is with Thane's Wagle Estate traffic unit for the last two years, was on duty under the Eastern Express Highway flyover near Nitin Junction in Thane. She noticed the accused driving his SUV (A Scorpio with license plate: MH 06 BE 7340) while talking on his cell phone. The constable gestured Kalgude to stop his vehicle but he tried to dodge her, until she came in front of the SUV to stop him.
When the constable asked him to show his driving licence and the vehicle's documents, Kalgude started abusing her. He then slapped and punched her so hard that her nose started to bleed.
