A highway police staffer and another person were killed after a truck rammed into a police van in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district, officials told news agency PTI on Sunday.
The accident took place at around 11.30 pm on Nagpur-Tuljapur highway, they said.
The highway police personnel were checking a truck on a bridge when another truck rammed into the police van from behind, the police said in a release, reported PTI.
A highway police staffer and the offending truck's driver were killed in the accident, while two other police personnel were seriously injured, the release said.

A probe was on into the incident, the police added.
In another incident, Six persons, including three women, were killed and more than 20 injured after two private buses collided in Maharashtra's Buldhana district in the early hours of Saturday, officials told PTI.
All the victims were returning to Hingoli after completing the Amarnath Yatra, Buldhana Superintendent of Police Sunil Kadasne told PTI.
The injured are admitted to a hospital, he said.
The accident occurred around 2.30 am on a flyover in Malkapur town on national highway (NH) no. 53, another official told PTI.
One of the buses involved in the accident was carrying a group of people returning to Hingoli after completing the Amarnath Yatra, while the other private bus was going towards Nashik, officials told PTI.
The bus going towards Nashik tried to overtake a truck and ended up coming in front of the second bus, resulting in a collision, they said.
Photos from the scene showed extensive damage to one of the two buses, reported PTI.
Six persons, including three women, died in the accident and more than 20 suffered injuries, said SP Kadasne.
The injured may be discharged from the hospital today. We are in the process of registering a first information report (FIR), he said.
The accident disrupted vehicular movement on the road for some time.
Meanwhile, At least 10 passengers were injured when a state transport bus overturned in a ghat section in Maharashtra's Buldhana district on July 25, an official told PTI.
The accident took place at around 9.45 am when the bus carrying 56 passengers was going towards Buldhana from Malkapur, he said.
When the bus was going up in the hilly Rajur Ghat section, its brakes failed and the vehicle overturned, the official told PTI.
At least 10 passengers received injuries in the incident, he said.
After being alerted, police rushed to the spot and all the injured persons were taken to a hospital for treatment, he added.
The bus belonged to the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).
