Maharashtra: One killed in explosion at Ordnance factory in Bhandara

According to the report in PTI, the factory, located in Jawaharnagar on the outskirts of Bhandara city, has launched an investigation into the incident with a three-member investigating committee.

The blast at the HEX department prompted the quick formation of a probe committee to investigate the reason. The circumstances behind the explosion have yet to be determined, per the PTI report.

The factory spokesperson reported that the sound of the blast was heard around 8:15 am. Colleagues from nearby departments rushed to the HEX department upon hearing the sound and discovered Avinash Meshram lying motionless. Despite being promptly taken to the factory hospital, he was declared dead.

"A sound of blast was heard at 8.15 am from the HEX department of the Ordnance Factory Bhandara. The employees from the nearby departments ran towards that department after hearing the blast sound and found Avinash Meshram lying motionless," a release issued by the factory spokesperson was cited in the PTI report as saying.

Details surrounding the incident are under investigation, and the factory authorities are taking necessary measures to provide compensation and pension to the deceased employee's family. Bhandara Superintendent of Police Lohit Matani mentioned that Meshram was involved in making wires for detonating explosives when the accident occurred.

Assistant Inspector Sudhir Borkute from Jawaharnagar police station stated that an accidental death report had been filed based on the information received. Avinash Meshram hailed from Gondia district.

"On the basis of information received so far, an accidental death report has been filed in this connection," he told PTI.

Bhandara District Collector Yogesh Kumbhejkar informed that a senior official from the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health was visiting the blast site. The body of the deceased has been sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination, the PTI report added.

Recently, a man was charred to death in a major fire in a timber market in Mumbai's Kamathipura area. The fire was categorised as a Level 4 fire by the Mumbai Fire Brigade.
