NCP workers held protests against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) during its searches at former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh's premises in Nagpur district.
The ED conducted searches at the two residences of Deshmukh, an NCP leader, as part of a probe into a money laundering case. Two separate teams of the central agency searched his house in Katol town, located about 60 km from here, and his ancestral home at Wadvihira village near Katol, officials said. A large number of personnel from Katol police station were deployed at these two places to maintain law and order, an official said.
As soon as the news of the ED's searches at Deshmukh's places spread, a large number of NCP workers and the former minister's supporters gathered at the spots and started sloganeering during the searches. The ED is conducting a probe into the money laundering case related to an alleged multi-crore bribery-cum-extortion racket that led to Deshmukh's resignation from the post of home minister in April this year.
