A major fire broke out at two shops in Khamgaon town in Buldhana district in Maharashtra on Wednesday morning, the police said, reported the PTI.
According to the PTI, there were no casualties in the incident, said an official.
The fire started at a shop selling bangles and cosmetics in Tilak ground area early in the morning and spread to the adjacent pharmacy shop, he said.
Fire tenders reached the spot and brought the blaze under control though the shops suffered much damage, he added.
Probe was on to ascertain the cause of fire, he said.
Meanwhile, ten days after the fire at Heera Panna Mall in Oshiwara, even as an injured senior citizen fights for his life in the ICU, his children are still awaiting a response to their complaint to the police. Victim Raj Israni's son, Luv, and daughter Medha Bhatia claimed in their September 25 complaint letter to the police and BMC that the firefighting system in the mall was not working. The complaint claims that Raj, 69, was stuck inside the mall for 40 minutes and inhaled smoke in a large quantity.
The fire broke out on the afternoon of Friday, September 22, when over 500 people were inside the three-storey mall. Most of the citizens ran outside after learning about the fire. The fire brigade rescued 14 people stuck inside, most of them from the terrace and a few through a staircase. Four people were admitted to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital after inhaling large quantities of smoke. One of them was Raj. Luv filed the complaint against the secretary and owner of the mall and demanded action against them for negligence.
According to the complaint, submitted jointly by Luv and his sister Medha, Raj has taken three shops on lease on the mall's second floor. Around 2:30 pm, some of the staff-members in their shops noticed a little smoke, but the fire alarm did not ring and no one from the management of the mall informed them about evacuation. "My father was stuck on the first floor which had maximum smoke. The sprinklers weren't functioning," Luv said in his complaint.
