Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has surpassed Sonia Gandhi's 2019 victory margin from the Rae Bareli constituency and is now leading by 2,27,535 votes in Lok Sabha elections 2024 against his nearest rival Dinesh Pratap Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reported the PTI.
Rahul Gandhi, who contested from Rae Bareli seat for the first time, was ahead of the BJP candidate since the beginning of the counting.
Singh is also a minister in the Yogi Adityanath cabinet.
In 2019, former Congress president Sonia Gandhi won the seat by a margin 1,67,178 votes against Dinesh Pratap Singh, as per the PTI.

Rahul Gandhi represented the Amethi Lok Sabha seat from 2004 to 2019.
In the 2019 general election, he lost the seat to the BJP's Smriti Irani but was elected to the Lok Sabha from Kerala's Wayanad.

Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi arrived at the residence of the party's general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday, reported the ANI.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was also seen leaving from the residence of Sonia Gandhi at 10, Janpath.
Rahul Gandhi is leading from Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli Lok Sabha seat with a margin of 1,64,249 votes. He is also leading from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala.
The latest trends by the Election Commission on 542 Lok Sabha seats show that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) crossing the halfway mark with the BJP leading on 242 seats and winning one seat.
The NDA is leading on 295 seats as per the trends as reported by the Election Commission.
The INDIA bloc is leading on 230 seats with its ally Samajwadi Party (SP) ahead on 33 seats and Trinamool Congress on 29 seats. Both Rahul Gandhi and PM Narendra Modi are leading from their constituencies of Rae-Bareli and Varanasi. Rahul Gandhi is also leading in Wayanad, as per the ANI.
In the Hindi heartland state of Uttar Pradesh, the BJP is leading on 35 seats and its ally partner RLD leading on two seats while the Samajwadi party is leading on 34 seats, as per the initial trends by the Election Commission.
In the 2019 elections, NDA wrested 353 seats, of which the BJP won 303 alone. The Opposition's UPA got only 93 seats of which the Congress got 52.
Around 642 million people voted in Lok Sabha elections held over seven phases in a mammoth six-week period. The counting of votes began starting with postal ballot papers amid tight security.
The BJP is eyeing a third straight term in power, while the Opposition under the umbrella of the INDIA bloc is seeking to wrest power from the ruling party.
