Karwa Chauth 2022: Date, significance, puja muhurat and all you need to know

Karwa Chauth is one of the most auspicious and popular festivals in India. This year, Karwa Chauth will be celebrated on October 13 (Thursday). The day coincides with Sankashti Chaturthi, a fasting day observed for Lord Ganesha.

Significance:

The Karwa Chauth vrat (fast) is observed on the Krishna Paksha Chaturthi during the Karthik month. It falls on the fourth day of the Karthik month, every year.

Karwa Chauth is a special day for married women who keep a day-long fast for the long life of their husbands. The festival is majorly celebrated in north India, especially in parts of Delhi, Jammu, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Married women observe the fast with complete devotion without consuming food or water after sunrise till the sighting of moon in the night.

On this age-old festive day, women dress in their best traditional ethnic attire, celebrating the bond of marriage and love.

According to drikpanchang, on this day, married women worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and break the fast only after sighting and making offerings to the moon.
