It's official: Maharashtra govt extends lockdown-like restrictions in state till May 15

State Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope, on Wednesday, had notified citizens that the lockdown in Maharashtra will be extended by another 15 days beyond April 30.

The Maharashtra government, on Thursday, officially announced that the lockdown-like curfew implemented in the state as a part of the ‘break the chain' initiative be extended till May 15.

According to a report in ANI, an order issued by chief secretary Sitaram Kunte said the decision to extend the lockdown like restrictions has been taken as the state continued to battle the spread of COVID-19. It was imperative to continue the emergency measures to prevent and contain the spread of the virus, he said.

He said all members of the cabinet, who participated in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, pitched for such extension.

In view of the alarming rise in the COVID-19 cases, the Maharashtra government on April 4 announced a weekend lockdown and restrictions on the movement of people in the night during the weekdays till April 30.
