India saw a single-day rise of 33,376 Covid-19 infections, taking the overall tally of cases to 3,32,08,330, while the number of active cases increased marginally since Friday to stand at 3,91,516, according to the Union Health Ministry.
The death toll climbed to 4,42,317 with 308 daily fatalities. The number of active cases have increased to 3,91,516, comprising 1.18 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.49 per cent, the health ministry said.
The Puri Police have registered three cases and arrested 12 persons on the charge of running a fake RT-PCR certificate racket that provided forged documents to people for getting entry into the 12th century Shree Jagannath temple.

While two such cases have been registered at Singhadwar police station, another case is lodged at Kumbharpada police station in the pilgrim town in a span of a fortnight, the police said. An inquiry was conducted after getting input that few devotees are trying to enter the temple by showing fake RT-PCR certificate.
Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan has asked all the District Collectors (DCs) to stay alert following a marginal increase in Covid-19 cases in the state. The directive was issued on Friday.
While the rise is marginal the test positivity rate (TPR) that stood at 0.97 per cent on September 4 touched 1 per cent on September 10. Even though the increase is negligible, the state government is not taking any chances.
The Health Secretary in the circular to the DCs said the increase in TPR is not due to the increase in testing but actual increase in Covid-19 positive cases which cannot be taken lightly. He impressed upon the DCs to increase vaccinations and enforce Covid-19 appropriate behaviour among the people.
More than 72 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses have been provided to states and union territories so far, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday. The doses were provided through the government of India (free of cost channel) and through the direct state procurement category, it added. The ministry said over 5.75 crore (5,75,43,795) balance and unutilised Covid-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs to be administered.
The Telangana government's initiative âMedicine from the Sky' was launched on Saturday to deliver medicines to remote areas using drones. The maiden drone delivered a five kg box of vaccine doses to a community health centre located three kilometres away in 10 minutes. Life-saving drugs, vaccines, blood and even organs for transplantation could easily be transported to remote places while saving precious time, said Rama Rao, Minister for Industries.
