Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday claimed that West Bengal, which had once led the nation, is now facing a lawless situation. He was addressing a rally in Malda district's Gazole. He also alleged that incidents of âlove jihad' are happening in the state, but the TMC government has failed to stop them.
"Appeasement politics for the sake of vote bank has endangered the security of not only West Bengal but also of the country. The TMC government has a problem with refugees getting citizenship but has no issue with illegal immigrants coming to the state," Adityanath said.
"If the BJP is voted to power in West Bengal, we will stop cow smuggling within 24 hours," he added. Elections to the 294-member assembly will be held in eight phases between March 27 and April 29.
âMolester' kills girl's father in Hathras
A man out on bail in a 2018 molestation case allegedly killed his victim's father in Hathras on Monday, police said on Tuesday. Ambrish Sharma, 50, was in his field when Gaurav Sharma came with his aide and asked to take back the case, read the FIR in murder case. "Before my father could say anything, he opened fire on him. We rushed him to the hospital, but he died," the girl said in the FIR.

3 girls go missing in Shahjahanpur
Three minor girls went missing in Shahjahanpur after they left home for school on Monday, police said on Tuesday. Two of the girls are aged 15 and one is 10, Superintendent of Police S Anand said, adding that three teams are looking into the matter. An officer said one of them was carrying R2,500 and another had taken Rs 2,700 and clothes with her for a programme at the school, police said.
Man held for trying to rape teen in Banda
A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to rape a 14-year-old girl in Banda district in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Tuesday. The 22-year-old man dragged the girl and tried to rape her on Monday when she was grazing goat in a forest area, Dehat police station SHO Pradeep Kumar Yadav said. He said the accused has been arrested and booked under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections of IPC.
âDalit girl in Aligarh was strangulated'
The post-mortem report of the 16-year-old Dalit girl, whose body was found in Aligarh on Sunday, has not indicated any clear evidence of rape and found that she was strangulated to death, a senior officer said. There were multiple injuries on the body of the girl, the report said. Police have picked up five people for questioning. An FIR has been filed under IPC Sectios 302 (murder), 376 (rape) and POCSO Act.
