The Haridwar administration has fined seven mosques for causing noise pollution. According to reports, mosques in many villages of Pathri police station area of Haridwar district, were warned to use loudspeakers for Azaan on lowered volume.
But on the report of failing to do so, Sub Divisional Magistrate Puran Singh Rana has imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on seven mosques. At the same time, two other mosques have been warned for causing noise pollution.

Reacting to this Jamiat Ulama Uttarakhand President Maulana Mohammad Arif has alleged appeasement in view of upcoming elections. While raising questions on the fine, Maulana Arif said that they had promised to reduce the volume and a fine wasn't necessary.
