A 32-year-old executive with a Pune-based automobile company committed suicide by hanging himself at a relative’s house, allegedly due to constant harassment by his wife and in-law

Pune: A 32-year-old executive with a Pune-based automobile company has committed suicide allegedly due to constant harassment by his wife and in-laws. The police have identified the man as Deepak Swami Chaudhari (32), a resident of Chinchwad. He committed suicide at his relative's house on November 24.

The police registered the complaint after the deceased's sister, Rajani Rao (35), a resident of Parijatnagar in Nashik, threatened the cops that she would bring the dead body to the police station if a complaint was not registered against Deepak's in-laws.

The police later registered a case against Deepak's wife Komal (29), and his in-laws Shalini (55) and Krishna Kolhe (59). The trio has been booked under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC. The case was registered by the Pimpri police.

Deepak had a mechanical engineering degree and was working as a deputy manager with General Motors Private Limited based in Talegaon Dabhade in Pune. He had married Nagpur-based woman Komal on November 18, 2010.

Torture
Speaking to mid-day, complainant Rajani said, "My brother was a gentleman. Komal wanted a luxurious lifestyle and used to harass my brother by demanding money for shopping. She did not cook food. So, the couple used to order food from hotels. Even if my brother was not at fault, Komal made my brother touch her feet to plead for his innocence. He used to contact me and my mother and share his bitter experiences of torture."

She said, "To overcome this torture, our family planned to inform Komal's parents and hold a meeting with them. However, they threatened to registered false cases against us."

Rajani added, "My brother use to cry daily and complain that his wife and in-laws tortured him, but he loved his wife so much that he never wanted to leave her. On November 24, his mother-in-law saw him going out of the house with a stool. Later she alerted us and I rushed to Pune along with my husband to search for him. At around 6 pm, we received a call from Komal's mother; she said that my brother had committed suicide in our relative's house in Pimpri."

The post-mortem report conducted at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial hospital in Pimpri said that death was due to hanging. A suicide note was found in Deepak's pocket.
