Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais has removed Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University's Vice Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhari from his post in the wake of several complaints against him. Dr Chaudhari was appointed the VC of Nagpur University in August 2020, and his tenure has been full of controversies.
The Vice-Chancellor of Gondwana University Dr Prashant Bokare has been directed to take charge from Dr Chaudhari.

The exact reason for the VC's suspension mentioned in the suspension letter is not known, however there were several complaints against him, including of indiscipline. Reportedly, large number of complaints had piled up in the Governor's office and Higher Education Minister Chandrakant Patil against Dr Chaudhari. The Governor is ex-officio Chancellor of the Universities in Maharashtra and responsible for appointments of Vice Chancellors of universities in the state.
As per PTI report, number of complaints, including that of indiscipline, against Dr Chaudhari were received by the governor's office around nine months back. "It is true that the governor has removed Chaudhary from the post of vice chancellor. The process to look for a new head of the university will start soon," PTI reported quoting an the official.
As per reports, minister Chandrakant Patil conducted an enquiry through Deputy Secretary Ajit Bawiskar and the complaints related to the functioning of Dr Chaudhari as VC were also raised in the State Legislature. The enquiry panel submitted its report to Raj Bhavan recently
Meanwhile, last year, Dr Chaudhari had removed six members of Preamble committee of Nagpur University, however they were reinstated later.
Last year, Senate member from Nagpur University had also written to Governor Ramesh Bais seeking action against Dr Chaudhari citing that Chaudhari was bringing disrepute to the university through his functioning and pointed out Dr Chaudhari's illegal decisions.
