Government responsible if anything happens to us: Indian students stuck in Sumy

Around 600 students who were stuck in Sumy, the north eastern state of Ukraine, have made another video saying if anything happens to them, the government will be responsible. All the students are of Sumy Medical University, presently living amidst shelling and bombings in the war-torn area.

"Today is the tenth day of war. We have come to know that Russia has announced a ceasefire to open the corridor of the border of two cities, one of them is Mariupol which is 600 km from here. Since morning we are hearing sounds of airjets, bombing and street fights. We have waited for long and can't wait any more… We are risking our lives, we are moving towards borders, if anything happens to us, the government should be held accountable," said the students in the video sent to IANS, adding that it was the last video made by them before they started walking towards borders.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday night claimed that no Indian is now left in Ukraine's Kharkiv region. "From Pisochyn and Kharkiv, we should be able to clear out everyone in the next few hours," MEA Spokesperson said, adding that now their main focus is on the Sumy region.

NMC allows foreign medical students to complete internship in India

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has allowed foreign medical students with incomplete internship due to the ongoing situations, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukraine crisis, to apply and finish their apprenticeship requirement in India, but with conditions.

However, the Commission has said that the candidates must complete their Foreign Medical Graduates Exam (FMGE) before applying for internships in India. The Commission is expected to issue the guidelines for State Medical Councils soon in this regard.

"The commission decided to issue the detailed guidelines and process to be followed by State Medical Councils for grant of registration of FMGs till further instructions from the commission or implementation of NEET exam whichever occurs earlier." The Commission further directed the State Medical Councils to follow these conditions while processing for registration of FMGs.
