Seven people, including four children, were killed after heavy rain triggered landslides and damaged many houses in Kathua, Jammu & Kashmir, on Wednesday, officials said.
A rescue operation was on to find one more people trapped under the debris, they said. The incessant rain has created a flood-like situation at many places in Jammu. Officials said rivers, especially in Kathua and Samba districts, have either crossed or are close to breaching the flood level. The weather office has predicted more rains in the region.
Torrential downpour hits parts of Gujarat's Saurashtra regions on Wednesday, causing flooding in low-lying areas and cutting off several villages, prompting authorities to move people to safer areas in many places. Overflowing of dams and monsoon rivers due to the release of water flooded houses in villages, where fields turned into lakes. Heavy rains also affected Valsad and Surat districts of south Gujarat. Several residential societies in Vapi town in Valsad district were flooded.
