The Swargate police yesterday claimed to have cracked the sensational case of duping by arresting seven imposters, who posed as CBI officials, raided the residence of Kayani Bakery's co-owner on Saturday and made away with Rs 21 lakh.The accused have been identified as Nilesh Sonawane, Rupesh Sonawane, both residents of Hadapsar, Manish Ojha, Pramod Rathod, Rajesh Shirke, Atul patankar, all from Thane, and Sunil Kasabe, a resident of Virar. Cops believe that one more person was part of the raiding team, and is currently absconding.u00a0According to police, one of the accused is a police constable attached to the armory section of the Mumbai police's headquarter.
The police said that the accused got inspired from Bollywood flick Special 26, and before executing the raid they watched the movie several time to gain precision.On Saturday evening, five people under the leadership of Rathod came in a SUV at the Sohrab Kayani's house in Gultekdi and introduced themselves as CBI officers. They told Kayani that they had come to conduct raid, as they have learnt that he is involved in money laundering racket, and that they have information Rs 100 crore is stacked in his house. During the âraid', they found Rs 21.03 lakh and seized the amount.u00a0
When Kayani contacted his Chartered Accountant and narrated the CBI episode, the CA got suspicious asked Kayani to approach the police. "During the investigation, we came to know that Nilesh used to work with Kayani till some years ago, and then he left the job. Later, his brother Rupesh started working as Kayani's bodyguard," said ACP Vasant Sonawane of Swargate police division.u00a0He added that Nilesh and Ojha are friends. "Once Nilesh told Ojha that Kayani has loads of money and asked him to plan something to exploit his fortune." After a few days, Ojha brought together Rathod, Kasabe, Shirke, Patankar and one more suspect, who is at large, and briefed them about the plan.
