Five members of a family, including three children, were charred to death when a fire a broke out at Naharbari area of Nagaland's Dimapur district, an official said on Monday. The incident occurred around 10:45 pm on Sunday, when the blaze ripped through rows of thatched houses inhabited by people from a non-Naga community, he said.
Bursting of firecrackers during Diwali celebrations is likely to have triggered the blaze, the Fire & Emergency Services official said. Around 50 families have been affected due to the fire, he said, adding, six fire tenders managed to put out the flames after nearly two hours.
Several hospitals in the national capital reported cases of burn injuries, largely caused by firecrackers, on the day of Diwali. The festival was celebrated on Sunday.
A man and his 18-year-old son were killed, while his nephew was injured in an attack by a group of people over the bursting of firecrackers during Diwali in Ahmedabad. The incident occurred around 10 pm on Sunday when four persons were quarrelling with some people who were bursting firecrackers in a residential society in the Ramol locality of the city.
Over 100 people were treated at different hospitals in Odisha after suffering burn injuries while celebrating Diwali, as a number of fire incidents caused by crackers and lamps were reported. Casualty department of the state-run Capital Hospital remained busy on Sunday night as at least 31 patients including 29 minor boys and girls came for treatment due to burn injuries sustained while bursting crackers.
