The entire country is soaked in the festive spirit. Diwali, the festival of lights, is almost here and people have started the preparations for it. A festival that goes beyond cultures and religions, Diwali, also known as Deepavali, marks the triumph of good over evil. From decorating homes with rangolis, colourful earthen lamps, candles, lanterns to gifting wonderful presents to near and dear ones, what makes Diwali even more special is that this glittering festival continues for five consecutive days- Dhanteras, Naraka Chaturdasi, Lakshmi Puja (Diwali), Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj. This year, Diwali falls on October 24, 2022.

Here is a list of days that are celebrated during Diwali:
Dhanteras or Dhantrayodashi: This year, Dhanteras, also known as Dhantrayodashi, will be observed on October 22. On this day, people purchase gold, silver, clothes, gadgets, etc as a sign of good luck and worship the god of health and Ayurveda in the evening.

Naraka Chaturdasi: Naraka Chaturdasi, also known as Chhoti Diwali, will be celebrated on October 24. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that Lord Krishna fought the demon Narakasura and killed him.
Lakshmi Puja: This is the day when the main celebration of Diwali takes place. Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth is worshipped on this day. This year it will be celebrated on October 24.
Govardhan Puja: This day occurs a day after Diwali and is dedicated to Lord Krishna. This year it will be celebrated on October 26. People believe that Lord Krishna saved the residents of Mathura from Lord Indra by lifting a mountain named 'Govardhan'. People make miniature clay and cow dung, symbolising Govardhan and worship them.
Bhai Dooj: Bhai Dooj is also known as Bhau Beej. This is a day for siblings to get together and show their love for each other by performing the tikka ceremony and exchanging gifts, sweets and blessings. This year it will be celebrated on October 26.
