On Thursday, Dehradun police raided Ajay Gupta and Anil Gupta's Dalanwala apartment. The Gupta brothers are currently incarcerated for allegedly aiding the suicide of builder Satinder Singh Sawhney, commonly known as Baba Sawhney. Police took technological evidence, essential paperwork, and the DVR of the CCTV installed in the home.
Ajay Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun, told ANI that he has written to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to probe the businesses through which the Gupta brothers invested in local enterprises. He confirmed that the computers and other devices seized during the raid are being investigated, reported ANI.
"In Rajpur Police Station, we are investigating a case under section 306. According to witnesses, Sawhney and others were called to the accused's house and threatened. We are currently reviewing the CCTV footage from there. Sawhney and his partner had written to the ED on May 14, expressing concerns about various shell companies and potential money laundering. We have requested the ED to look into this," said SSP Ajay Singh.
According to the report, on May 25, Ajay Kumar Gupta and Anil Kumar Gupta were sentenced to 14 days in judicial custody. The Gupta brothers, originally from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, were detained when a builder in Dehradun named them in a suicide note. The two were apparently close to former South African President Jacob Zuma.

Ajay Gupta, who has special status in Uttarakhand, received Z Plus security from the state government in 2017. In the past, Ajay Kumar Gupta had his son's wedding reception in Auli, a popular tourist location, which sparked controversy. In 2018, Johannesburg police searched the Gupta brothers' houses in South Africa and arrested a family member, the report added.
Satinder Singh Sawhney, a constructor, committed himself by jumping from the roof of a building under construction on Rajpur Road. He wrote a suicide note addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, alleging he was suffering from extreme despair as a result of threats and financial issues with various businessmen, including the Gupta family.
The note stated that Sawhney was subjected to intense harassment, which exacerbated his depression and drove him to make this drastic decision. Following this, Dehradun police quickly apprehended Ajay and Anil Gupta, who were detained for questioning, the ANI report stated.
