The East Coast Railway on Thursday said it has cancelled operation of 95 trains for three days from Thursday in the wake of predictions of a cyclonic storm hitting the Odisha coast. Neighbouring Andhra Pradesh is also expected to be affected due to the weather phenomenon.
The India Meteorological Department said as of 12.43 pm on Thursday, the low pressure area over central parts of Andaman Sea had moved west-northwestwards and become a well-marked low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman Sea.
In New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting to review the preparedness of States and Central Ministries to deal with the situation arising out of the likely formation of Cyclone Jawad. PM asked officials to keep essential services up and running.
