The Assam government has set a target to vaccinate the entire population of Kamrup Metropolitan district, under which the state's largest city Guwahati falls, by end of this month, Health and Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta said on Saturday. The vaccination drive on a mission mode will be conducted at the polling booth level of the district, with field teams already starting work on collection of data on non-vaccinated people, he said. Addressing a press conference, Mahanta said though the rate of new infection of Covid-19 was decreasing in the state, Kamrup Metropolitan district remained an area of concern.
Meanwhile, India's cumulative Covid-19 vaccination coverage surpassed 57.61 crore on Saturday, of which 36,36,043 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours. This has been achieved through 64,01,385 sessions. Of the total Covid-19 vaccines administered in the last 24 hours, 26,57,302 were that of the first dose, and 9,78,741 were of the second dose. Additionally, the Union Health Ministry reported that the recovery of 36,347 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the tally of recovered patients to 3,15,97,982.
A single-day rise of 34,457 Covid-19 cases pushed India's tally to 3,23,93,286 on Saturday, while the number of active cases declined to 3,61,340, the lowest in 151 days, according to Ministry data. India has reported less than 50,000 daily cases for 55 consecutive days. The death toll climbed to 4,33,964 with 375 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am. The 3,61,340 active cases comprise 1.12 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March last year.
