Covid-19: Active cases rise by 2,766 in 24 hours

An increase of 2,766 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours

India registered 40,134 fresh Covid-19 infections and 422 deaths, while the number of active cases registered an increase for the sixth consecutive day to 4,13,718, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Monday morning.

An increase of 2,766 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The national Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.35 per cent, and the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 2.37 per cent, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.34 per cent, the data stated. India crossed the grim milestone of 2 crore Covid-19 cases on May 4, and 3 crore on June 23.

Cases drop in Kerala

After recording more than 20,000 Covid-19 cases successively for six days, Kerala on Monday reported 13,984 infections, taking the tally to 34,25,473 and the Test Positivity Rate to below 11 per cent.

The number of people who succumbed to Covid-19 in Kerala rose to 16,955 with 118 deaths, a state government release said.

UP schools to reopen

Schools in Uttar Pradesh will resume classes for Std IX to Std XII from August 16, but with 50 per cent attendance, according to the state government's order issued on Monday.

Meanwhile, schools for Std X and Std XII in Chhattisgarh reopened on Monday with a slew of Covid-19 restrictions, though the attendance, which has been capped at 50 per cent of capacity per day, was thin, especially in urban areas, officials said.
