COVID-19: 71.69 per cent of total active cases from two states

The nationwide COVID-19 tally has reached 1,13,08,846, while the death toll increased to 1,58,306 with 117 daily new fatalities, data updated at 8 am showed. Six states account for 82.91 per cent of the new deaths.

The total number of active case rose to 1,97,237, which now comprises 1.74 per cent of the total infections, while the recovery rate has dropped to 96.86 per cent. "Five states cumulatively account for 82.96 per cent of the total active cases in the country. Two states - Maharashtra and Kerala - account for 71.69 per cent of India's total active cases," the ministry said.

The number of people who have recovered from the disease surged to 1,09,53,303, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.40 per cent, the data stated. "The gap between recovered and active cases is constantly increasing and currently stands at 1,07,56,066," the ministry said.

Nearly 2,61,64,920 vaccine doses have been administered through 4,87,919 sessions, as per the provisional report till Friday 7 am. A total 4,80,740 vaccine doses were given on Day 55 of the drive.
