Chandrayaan 2 is scheduled to make a soft landing on the surface of the moon between 1:30 am to 2:30 am on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. This will be followed by the Rover roll out between 5:30 am to 6:30 am, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) informed. Let's have a look at the Chandrayaan-2's journey so far:
India's second moon mission Chandrayaan-2 was launched on July 22 from the spaceport in Sriharikota. The three-stage rocket GSLV-MkIII-M1 took off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre amid cloudy skies at 2.43 pm, a week after the earlier launch was called off on July 15 following a technical snag observed during the propellant filling stage.
Chandrayaan-2 enters Earth orbit
The launch vehicle took off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at 2.43 pm and successfully placed the 3,850-kg Chandrayaan-2 into the Earth orbit 16.42 minutes later. Immediately after Chandrayaan-2's separation from the rocket, its solar array automatically got deployed and the ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network at Bengaluru successfully took control of the spacecraft, Indian Space Research Organisation informed.
Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft's second earth bound orbit-raising maneuver was performed successfully on July 26, ISRO informed in a statement. "Second earth bound orbit-raising maneuver for Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft has been performed successfully today (July 26, 2019) at 0108 hrs (IST) as planned, using the onboard propulsion system for a firing duration of 883 seconds. The orbit achieved is 251 x 54829 km. All spacecraft parameters are normal," ISRO said in its statement.
ISRO successfully carried out the fourth earth bound orbit-raising maneuver for Chandryaan-2 spacecraft. "Fourth earthbound orbit-raising maneuver for Chandryaan-2 spacecraft has been performed successfully today (August 2, 2019) at 1527 hrs (IST) as planned, using the onboard propulsion system for a firing duration of 646 seconds. The orbit achieved is 277 x 89472 km. All spacecraft parameters are normal," the space agency said in a statement.
Chandrayaan-2 successfully performed five earthbound orbit-raising maneauver on August 6, stated the Indian Space Research Organisation. "Fifth earthbound orbit-raising maneuver for #Chandrayaan2 spacecraft has been performed today (August 6, 2019) at 1504 hrs (IST) as planned," tweeted ISRO.
Chandrayaan-2 on August 14 carried out a crucial process to manoeuvre India's second lunar probe out of the earth's orbit after it was headed onwards its path to the moon after the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The space agency stated it carried out the manoeuvre called Trans Lunar Insertion (TLI) at 2.21 am today just as planned.
Chandrayaan 2 was successfully placed in the moon's orbit on August 20, stated the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI) maneuver which took a little over 28 minutes was completed at 9:02 am. "Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI) maneuver was completed successfully today (August 20, 2019) at 0902 hrs IST as planned, using the onboard propulsion system. The duration of maneuver was 1738 seconds. With this, Chandrayaan-2 was successfully inserted into a Lunar orbit. The orbit achieved is 114 km x 18072 km," ISRO said in a statement.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRRO) stated that Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft's second Lunar orbit manoeuvre was successfully completed on August 21, 2019. According to ISRO, the orbit manoeuvre began at 12.50 pm and it achieved 118 km X 4,412 km and took 1228 seconds to complete. All spacecraft parameters are normal.
The first Moon image shot clicked by Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft was released by ISRO. According to the Indian space agency, the image was captured at a height of about 2,650 km from the Moon surface on August 21, 2019.
ISRO on August 28 stated that it has successfully performed the third lunar-bound orbit maneuver for Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft. According to the city-headquarter space agency, all spacecraft parameters were normal after the maneuver on the spacecraft that is currently in the lunar orbit for its rendezvous with the Moon. "Third Lunar bound orbit maneuver for Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft was performed successfully today (August 28, 2019) beginning at 0904 hrs IST, using the onboard propulsion system. The duration of the maneuver was 1190 seconds. The orbit achieved is 179 km x 1412 km," ISRO stated in an update.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Septemeber 1, 2019 informed that Chandrayaan 2 has successfully completed the fifth and final lunar bound orbit change. As per ISROs latest report, the spacecraft began its fifth and final orbit lunar bound at 6.21 pm by using its onboard propulsion system for 52 seconds. The orbit achieved is 119 km x 127 km.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on September 2, 2019, stated that it successfully carried out the separation of lander 'Vikram' from Chandrayaan-2 orbiter, the space agency announced. During the one hour separation window starting 12.45 pm, 'Vikram' was separated at 1.15 pm, the Indian Space Research Organisation stated. "Yes, the separation was successfully carried out," an ISRO official told PTI.
Indian Space Research Organisation in a statement on September 3 stated that Chandrayaan-2 successfully completed its first de-orbiting maneuver. According to the statement by ISRO, "The orbit of Vikram Lander is 104 km x 128 km. Chandrayaan-2 Orbiter continues to orbit the Moon in the existing orbit and both the Orbiter and Lander are healthy."
The second de-orbiting maneuver for Chandrayan 2 spacecraft was performed successfully on September 4, 2019, informed Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). "The maneuver was performed successfully today (September 04, 2019) beginning at 0342 hours Indian Standard Time (IST) as planned, using the onboard propulsion system," the space agency announced in a statement.
